the drug manufacturers don't tell us about hair loss, brain damage, severe depression, hallucinations, spinal cord damage, memory loss, cognitive problems, shaking, etc. I've been on it for 5 years and my pre-prograf MRI of my brain was fine. Now I have brain damage. I've also been diagnosed as severely bi-polar, and my once thick hair is all but gone!

Lots of side effects, hair loss is severe. Tingling, blurred vision, and insomnia. I am very thankful for my liver. Six months tomorrow 8/5/2014.

To the liver transplant patient experiencing trembling--my docs have ordered me to take magnesium to counteract the tendency of Prograf (and CellCept, the other anti-rejection drug I take ) to cause muscle trembling. If you're not already taking magnesium, it's worth a talk with your doc. Downside-tends to encourage movement in your lower g.i. tract, if you know what I'm talking about.

I hate it!!, while taking the brand name (prograf) I felt really good then my insurance switch to generic (Tacrolimus)and my life is just crappy now, generics DONOT work for everyone. I wish somebody would listen to the patients, it's our bodies and we know when something is just not working for us.

My experience has been great except for serious shaking or trembling of my hands and now my arms at night. I hear this goes away in time but I'm 18 months in and getting worse. Any help out there?

I am dissatisfied with the severe effects of this drug. I have severe nerve and muscle pain. I will be an invalid soon. It is hard to accept the fact that this drug is used to give me life yet the life I am living is not worth living, not with constant and excruciating pain.

Kid/panc transplant 2007.I was placed on Prograf and Cellcept. Side effects increased drastically after a year's treatment with prograf. Tremors, confusion, weakness on one side of body, migraines, shortness of breath, insomnia, weight gain and extreme fatigue. I am now on Rapamune,Cyclosporine, Myfortic, and Prednisone. Four meds instead of two, but my quality of life is significantly better.

I am a double lung transplant patient. I have experienced negative side effects with several of my anti-rejection drugs since my transplant 5/12/12. My doctors have difficulty finding the right dosage because the levels will get out of balance so easily. I experience severe nausea, headaches & vomiting when my levels get too high. They lower my dosage and then it gets too low. When my levels are in line, I feel really good. My lungs are doing great, but the side effects are really hard on me. There are days when the nausea hits and it is really difficult to eat or have an appetite at all. I have had very serious side effects with Cellcept, Neoral & Imuran too. I was on 3 mg, twice a day last week because my level dropped to 2.5 (8-12 is ideal). A few days later, my level was at 14.8. They dropped me to 2mg twice a day & then my level dropped to 4.5. Now they have me at 2.5 twice a day again. Within 24hrs, I was vomiting and had massive headaches again. Lab work to be repeated in 2 days and waiting to see what new adjustments are to come.Read More Read Less

Have taken since 1/27/2011 Heart Transplant . Experienced the tremors like everyone. Dosage is now at 2mg 2 x a day. Just changed from 2.5mg in the morning. Noticing that I have become less patient, snappy, irritable. It's the weekend now, will call Dr. Monday about this. Otherwise, all seems well. Every day I wake up is a blessing. My wife has been my caregiver through all of this. How she did it I will never really understand. I feel I owe my life to her in so many ways that I will never be able to fully express to her. I Love You Babe! A special Prayer for the donor.Read More Read Less

Had Kidney Transpkant from Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1995 and have been doing fairly well. In 2001, while on Prograf, my kidney rejected due to the Prograf toxicity. My doctor from the transplant team at the time, reversed the rejection, and changed the Prograf to Rapamune, 2mg everyday. Did very well with the Rapume, so I thought for for 9 years, with creatinin level 1.2 to 1.3. In 2010, started experiencing fluid retention in my abdomen. Had countless of tests from bloodworks to CT scans, ultrasound, cardio test, biopsy of the liver. All tests came back negative. Here it is November 2012, still with swelling abdomen, my creatinin levels increased from my norm to 1.7 average, BUN 24-30. Kidney Biopsy shows no sign of rejection, no protein or blood in the urine. Just recently was told by a transplant doctor, the swelling could be a side affect of the Rapamune. Was switched back to Prograf, 4mg and 3mg a day. Since on the Prograf, 6 weeks now, I suffer from severe migraine headaches. Still have the abdominal swelling. I have an appt next week with a top liver doctor (3rd liver doctor so far), hopefully, he can help me.Read More Read Less

It has been 6 months since my liver transplant. I am doing great and am so thankful for the Prograf. I have had a few side effects but overall I can't complain. I am forever grateful to my donor and all the wonderful doctors and nurses at Duke.

I had a kidney transplant 02/27/10 and I take 6 caps of prograf in 2 doses and 6 caps of cellcept in 2 doses, predisone and numerous other necessary meds. I have gained 40 pounds, have neuropathy, excessive sweating, mild fatigue, compounded dry eyes and mouth, vision changing all the time with blurry vision and severe dry eyes. Have insomnia mild to moderate, skin changes with several new spots, thinning hair and darkened nails. However, I also have Lupus but I did not have these issues prior to transplant. My Lupus is more or less in remission. In spite of all my issues I am grateful for my second chance at a life. I just wish the sweating and weight were under control. Blessings and good health to other post transplant patients and all that read this.Read More Read Less

I used Prograf for 5 yrs post-liver-xplant, and became increasingly paranoid, confused and delusional during that time. My docs said "You're bi-polar" & put me in the mental hospital. I'm not bi-polar, but I sure appeared to be. After doing my own research, I discovered that brain damage, paranoia, hallucinations, mania and even hair loss are COMMON side effects. I showed my doc my print-out w/ my symptoms hi-lighted, and he weaned me off prograf. Now I'm only on cellcept. That was 3 years ago, and I'm no longer crazy. But I have psoriasis, which just spread to my face, and just discovered that prograf topical is used for psoriasis! hmmm.. lose my hair and my mind or walk around w/ red blotches all over my face? I'm alive anyway, and I'm glad for all of U who are similarly blessed. Has anyone tried this stuff for psoriasis? Maybe topical won't affect my psyche! thx for any input. Peace.Read More Read Less
