I have suffered from intense, chronic panic attacks and general anxiety since I was a child, and doctors have tried a wide range of medicines w/out very much success. This drug has drastically reduced the frequency and severity of my panic attacks, as well as my overall anxiety. It's not a miracle drug, as I do still have troubles, but it has made them easily manageable! I do have odd dreams, but ...

I've recently started using this medication. I was on Topamax, but had to stop due to kidney stones. Propranolol has really worked for me. I was getting migraines 3-8 times a month. I've had 1 or two since I started this. My biggest complaint is I have gained all the weight I just recently lost. About 25lbs. Very, Very depressing!

Have taken propranolol er for borderline blood pressure for over 25 years. The first week was difficult to adjust to as I felt lethargic and "not myself." So glad I didn't quit; it has been an excellent medication for me (with the added benefits that it also reduces anxiety and the severity of migraine headaches).

Took 40 mg at start of migraine, later had to up itto 80 mg. Took it with 2 ibuprofen and would work to stop it over half the time. If took it to late would lessen the pounding pain. i was young and had strong heart. My mom got fatigued on it and took it before bed for her high BP. I had to stop it when i got older and the propranolol aggravated acid reflux.

It works okay on my nervous disorder and I have calmed down quite a bit. I have experienced hair loss and memory loss. I will be looking into something else as I would love to have my hair back.

My daughter took this for frequent severe migraines. She started at 10mg twice a day and never increased the dose. It was a miracle for her migraines, but about a week after starting it she experienced fatigue, extreme fogginess, and felt "outside herself" several times a day, so we are trying something else. Definitely worth a try though. The side effects stopped within four days of discontinuing the drug.

This is my anchor medication and I can't say enough good things about it. Tremors, migraines, anxiety, stroke prevention, blood pressure, increased activity. If I could get it to balance my checkbook, I would. I have been on this drug for over a decade and can't roll out enough superlatives for it. I don't often experience side effects on it alone anymore, my body is so accustomed to it. But I do remember dizziness in the early days. And I remember some minor problems with my hands. But phshaw! It's good medicine. For the record, I take 80 mg a day.Read More Read Less

I have been on this medication since suffering a viral encephalitis that attacked my central nervous system causing my fight/flight mechanism to change to flight. Everything startles me now. I get so anxious being in crowds no matter how small. I am no longer able to work and am totally disabled. I take 80mg a day and have for almost 5 years. If I do not take it, I know it. I cannot go into stores (especially Walmart) without holding onto the cart because of my anxiety. I hate the damage the virus has caused but I would have become a hermit in my own home without this drug. I will never be without it and I am fine with that as long as it works.Read More Read Less

Very scared taking this! I have NEVER had high BP. Suddenly, BP is at stroke level. Headaches, dizziness, trouble breathing, dry mouth, insomnia, memory loss, agitation, difficulty concentrating...probably more side effects. But these are the constant, most bothersome. Have been taking it for 4 days...seems like a month! Has severely debilitated me and made life unbearable. WHY my doc would put me on this for anxiety, is beyond me! Constantly checking BP because I am in so much distress. Stopping immediately!Read More Read Less

This medication was a life saver for my migraines. I was getting them at least 4 days a week and even waking me up suddenly in the middle of the night and some would last for several days. I would be bed ridden with debilitating pain, vomiting, nausea and extreme sensitivity to light, sound, and just to rotate in bed. I had been prescribed several other medications to prevent them, but nothing seemed to work. I finally was prescribed this, and found incredible relief. Now I only get them a couple times a month. And, when I feel the first sign of one coming, all I need to take is some Ibuprofen and 90% of the time it catches it and keeps it away in between doses. As for blood pressure differences, my natural resting is lower, about 90/65, and it hasn't altered much since taking these meds. When I first started taking it, it would make me a bit dizzy. This went away after taking it for a couple weeks. Read More Read Less

Mu doctor gave me this for anxiety and talking in front of crowds. After I took it, I am reading that it is for migranes. Did I just take something I should not have?

My tremors are nearly gone when I use the medication, especially my inside tremors are nearly gone. when I stop the propranolol it returns so I know that is what is working. I have no side effects. I take the ER 80mg capsules, I find they work much better than the tablets, the tablets work only a short time, maybe because the caps are time released.

Totally stopped migraines I suffered with for over 40 years. 80 mg extended release once per day with no detectable adverse side effects. I already had low blood pressure 113/67 and it didn't change. If I even get a headache I can take some tylenol or aspirin and know it will not turn into a migraine. Peace of mind changed everything and took this monkey off my back.

Dr put me on 40 mg day to prepare for thyroidectamy. My HR is normally 100-120. Didn't want to have thyroid storm during surgery. It took a month to get over side effects,(insomnia was the worst)had to take 20mg in morning and 20 in the evening. after that worked like a charm. Now I'm hypo w/ half a thyroid, yet my levels all show normal. 3 weeks after surgery couldn't get out of bed for 5 days. Extreme lathargy! Called dr begging/crying for something. Put me on 75mcg levothyroxine. Today's my first day and I already feel 70% better. And I only took 1/2 a pill. Didn't want to freak out with any side effects. Tom I'll take whole pill. Wish me luck!! ????Read More Read Less

I started on propranolol about the same time I started physical therapy for my broken ankle. At physical therapy for my leg, they take everyone's bp twice, once before you start and once after you are done. In both cases, on average, it is no different than when I started taking propranolol. I see my doctor this week to discuss alternatives. Also, I've noticed an increase in hair loss. I keep finding the reasons for it, address the reason, and my hair grows back. Unfortunately, it looks like I am in this cycle again. Hopefully the doctor can give me something that won't interfere with my hair (still not 100% sure it is propranolol).Read More Read Less

I had HBP and portal hypertension due to liver cirrhosis due to fatty liver disease + alcoholism, to keep varicies from rupturing. Ended up going to the ER 3 times with with life-threatening bleeds, the last even when they had upped the dose to 240mg 2x a day (480 total) It worked great for my HBP and rapid heart rate. Went from Stage I, close to Stage II hypertension down to 90s/70s w/ 62 BPM heart rate. After I had a TIPS put in for the Portal Hypertension, they took me back down to 120mg 1x daily. BUT... even at the lower dosage, I experienced *crippling* side effects: ZERO energy, muscle weakness (couldn't walk for more than one block with feeling like my quadriceps were about to give out), shortness of breath (two flights of stairs and I was out of breath; three and I would be positively gasping), depression, ZERO sex drive, impotence that even ED tablets couldn't treat, depression, inability to concentrate, short-term memory difficulties, depression, weight gain, inability to exercise, sleepiness (could sleep for 14 hrs a day), and did I mention the crippling, black-pit-of despair DEPRESSION that was pretty much constant? I just told my docs that I wasn't taking them any more, period. After three months off, I feel great! No more depression, I now have the energy to exercise daily, and I can do hiking and even get romantic with my wife again! I've lost 25 lbs just by getting off the stuff and starting to eat right. Unfortunately, my BP and HR are returning to pre-propranolol levels, but I WON'T go back on the stuff! Perhaps if losing the rest of this weight doesn't help, or if I have a heart attack, maybe. If there are no alternatives. If you think you need to take Propranolol for any reason, I would say start at the lowest dose possible for your treatment-- you can always try more later. Also, keep a journal of your moods, and any side effects you notice: believe me, you don't want to end up where I was-- it was a very, very bleak place.Read More Read Less

Does not reduce frequency, or intensity, of migraines. Does not lower blood pressure. Migraine frequency, and blood pressure, are both increased. Extreme fatigue and lethargy. I can not get things done, that are imperative to accomplish. Extreme itchiness for first several months. Joint aches. Blurry vision. Propranolol does not work for me, and the side effects are intolerable.

I take this drug as a headache prevention medication as my doctor informed me that it is a beta-blocker used for migraines. It seems to work but then again i also take motrin and tylenol. It seems to work sometimes but then again I am on a low dose. I would recommend this for people with chronic headaches
