DO NOT GIVE YOUR CHILD THIS DRUG. My mother took me off this med when I was prescribed for ADD because i was experiencing muscle twitches in my jaw. I almost experience mental retardation if it weren't for her taking me off of it.

For the woman that posted about the 3 yr old. How did a doctor determine that your THREE YEAR OLD, had extreme ADHD? After going through four doctors I found one that sent my son for real testing for ADHD, the first three said "Oh he's hyper, we'll put him on this".We were told that children should be around 5 or 6 before being diagnosed. My son has TS, ADHD,OCD. He is on concerta in the morning and clonodine at night. It hasn't changed how funny and articulate he is but helps slow down the hyperactivity that even HE would say made him mad because he couldn't do things HE wanted to do. Children should only be on ADHD meds when appropriatley tested.Alot of doctors assume the parents are good to their children and that the child isn't being abused ect.. at home causing the ADHD like symptoms.Parents whose children actually have ADHD and chose to medicate should NEVER be viewed as lazy. We are far from it. We work our asses off,(sorry:), to make sure that the child is happy and occupied in a productive way. I have two other children and we have to make sure that each child gets equal treatment while trying to control the sugar, caffeine, and stimuls intake my son with ADHD ect.. gets. Most teachers I have encountered, even though my son's in a special ed inclusion class, think because my son can suppress alot of his Tourettes symptoms that they will be the one that will "fix" him. The life a family with a special needs child is one that wants to thrive with the disorders instead of surving in spite of them. Many children are misdiagnosed with ADHD but that only makes the stigma harder for the children, whom actually have it, to overcome. Take diagnosing serious, and make sure your doctor takes the appropriate steps to diagnose. Don't try to diagnose your child for this as a toddler, their attention and hyperactivity levels are usually high and differ from child to child. I didn't medicate my son until he was almost done with kindergarten,6 yrs old).Sorry for the novel:)Read More Read Less

My 9 year old son had a traumatic brain injury requiring craniotomy also had preexisting ADHD which the impulsitivity has extremely increased. The stimulant he takes to decrease impulsitivity keeps him awake at night. Clonidine has been a miracle medication that allows him to get restful sleep, I have noticed he doesn't toss and turn and is more restful while taking this medication. I did notice the dry mouth side affect only after noticing he eats ice chips and always drinks ice water.

I take 16-17 diferent pills daily...Clonidine is one of them, so it is hard to say how effective this drug is.... but overall the medication seems to keep me on a fairly stable base...so I would have to say it is effective on that score...I was not aware that clonidine was a high blood pressuree, treatment I also take atenenolol ...the clonodine was a substitute for another drug whose name escapes me...my complaint is; how upon change of doctors either through hospital stays or other situations such as geographic change etc...physicians arbitrarily will change a drug without fully explaining the reason for the change or its possible effects when combined with other drugs...I am medicated to the nth degree...at one time was on 17 different drugs relative to various ailmentsand subject to questioning the various physicians about the possible detrimental effect of these drugs...especially the combining of the different chemicals...and I have never been able to get a straight answer...go figure..!!Read More Read Less

I have taken this medicine for about a week. It makes me so tired, that I cannot take it in the morning. It makes you feel like you have not woke up yet. Then it is time to take the evening one. Any suggestions?

My adopted son has FAS & ADHD, his doctor prescribed this as one of the medications to help him gain control since he was falling way behind in school. At the end of first grade my son still couldn't pay enough attention to learn to read or write. After starting this medication, he's been able to get sleep (yay for me finally too) and can sit still in class and in just the last month has made huge progress learning to read. I hate drugging kids, but sometimes there are reasons beyond our control that the kids need it - this being one of them. He has responded well, with no known side effects. To me, this allows him to be who he really is and who he really wants to be.Read More Read Less

This was given to my 13 yr old son to help him rest at night. He has been on meds for ADHD since 8 yrs old and NEVER slept well. This med really helps him sleep. He is old enough to get his input of meds and when asked he said, "Momma, it was so awesome. It knocked me out." This was music to me ears after complaining that he could not sleep for the past 5 or 6 years. I will watch out for the signs I read on this site. I have not noticed any yet on my son and he has been on it about one week. I will update later.Read More Read Less

Besides hot flashes, I've had moderate to severe menopause-related depression, anxiety, and difficulty focusing and concentrating. My doctor told me this medication could help with all the symptoms, and it has helped dramatically. I feel GREAT. I take one .1 tablet twice daily.

Our grandson who is 12 is on this drug for ADHD and we feel he is better off without drugs. He is a boy, and boy's seem to be a litte hyper more then girls. We strongly believe doctors these days push these drugs to more or less be a babysitter in drug form. He has lost weight, he has no appetite he is very pail, with hardly any color We will show his Mother the facts about the drug info and maybe just maybe she will have his doctor gradually take him off these dangerous meds

The only negative is an extremley low pulse rate (45) and as an active person I found it difficult to exercise. Am now on one .1mg/day taken in the evening and hoping this will allow me to continue with my active lifestyle. It has helped control hot flashes during the day but I am still having some at night and not sleeping well.

This drug was used in the emergency room to bring down my high blood pressure. I felt drowsy for a few days. Dry mouth was almost unbearable. Took this drug for about 10 months. My new physician took me off it and I feel a lot better and my blood pressure is much lower with the new medication.
