I am a chronic pain suffer for over 20 years. Last 5 yrs spent taking oxycontin, percocet & lortab on top of celebrex. I have had 9 surgeries in 12 years and my pain is from arthritis and true nerve damage in my neck and low spine. This drug is doing wonders for my pain. I am starting on the 50mg 6x a day like everyone else. Today is a month of treatment and I have noticed far less pain. I guess...

I will be starting nucyntia RR as soon as the 20mg is available, I tried many others, last one being mscontin 60mg bid, many generics were not up to par. What I would like to know is the length of relief this provides since I also will take morphine IR for breakthrough pain, multiple back procedures/ injuries

I can not take codeine or most opiates or anti-inflammatory drugs, this has worked extremely well for me after full knee replacement surgery, wish I had found it a year ago, I may not have had the surgery. Works well, but I do not drive for 12 hrs after taking it due to alertness, as far as pain, it is a godsend for me, I still have osteoarthritis in other leg and this is the difference between me living my life or being in bed in chronic pain

I have Systemic Lupus and have been a few other pain meds- not alot, but enough that I can tell you they are tough to have a life and take them at the same time. Ive been on Nucynta for a few years and I am VERY satisfied with it. For chronic pain, it is the difference in me being able to get up in the morning and me being on disability. The side effects are practically nonexistent. There is no nausea or groggy stoned feeling that the others had. I really dont notice any side effects but after about 30minutes of taking it, I dont hurt. No hazy, goofy feeling after taking it. Good med in my experience.Read More Read Less

I had written a prior eval under the name Dan Irish on 8-13-13. I guess this is my follow up eval of what happened to me with use of Nucynta. It caused a horrific physical dependency on me that my surgeon had to wean me off by lessening the dose from 150mg, to 75 to 50 to 25 to zero. It took me two and a half months to completely wean off. Within a week of being off Nucynta I began to feel like myself again. My md asked me details about this drug - and what I said actually helped my surgeon to decide to hold off from recommending it to patients following spinal surgery like I had. I told my doc that missing a dose of Nucynta literally quadrupled the original pain that I was taken the med for! The nerve pain that I had as a complication post op affected my left side. If I missed a dose every 4-6 hrs it literally felt like my left side was burning, or being boiled. The other side effects were: depression, dizzy or light headed, motion sickness and mood swings. Please try another med for pain - this stuff is horrible. If you are taking it and want to get off and try something else, ask your md to wean you off this opiate based drug. Read More Read Less

I personally think Nucynta (tapentadol Hcl)has more side effect-to-benefit ratio than does other pain killers. I'd consider morphine as having less side effects, but that's just my opinion. Nucynta does have a rapid onset, the pain relief is 'somewhat' noticeable, but not quite enough relief for a (categorized) strong painkiller. The side effects are as unsual as the drug itself: first a tingly mood lift, then a pronounced dizzy-type feeling that's accompanied by confusion/confused/forgetful states. (Usually I can take strong painkillers & remain quite sharp, mentally). Oh, and some heart palpitations too, which I suspect comes from it's pro-adrenaline action. All in all there's plenty better strong painkillers out there. Nucynta's a pharmaceutical strikeout, in my opinion. Read More Read Less

I started on Nucynta back in January 2013 and so far it is the best (and only) pain medicine I can take. I was on hydrocodone 7.5 then switched to Norco 10's and all made me sick to my stomach and did not effectively treat pain as I have arthritis in my lower spine. Nucynta does have its cons though. For one I forget things from time to time, or its hard for me to form words and it kills my short term memory on occasion. That is mostly because other than being an opioid its also an SNRI (i.e. anxiety medicine) to treat neurological pain. Since I have been on it though my pain level has been very low. Beware that this is a VERY expensive medicine. Luckily I have insurance but if I didn't its over $500 for 90 pills.Read More Read Less

I started taking Nuycynta 75 mg for break through pain approximately one year ago. I have Fibromyalgia fairly bad and Rheumatoid Arthritis. I also take Nuycynta ER. This drug is wonderful since it doesn't make me nauseated and sweaty like other narcotic pain killers. I don't even realize I'm on a drug when I take Nucynta because there are no side effects. When I didn't have insurance, my pain management doctor prescribed for me Hydrocodone because it is much cheaper than Nucynta. My doctor told me that Hydrocodone doesn't work well for Fibromyalgia pain. But I couldn't afford Nucynta without prescription insurance. Doctor was right. I still had the pain while taking Hydrocodone, plus the negative side effects. I begged him for a script of Nucynta the next time I saw him. I am able to work and function normal while taking Nucynta. Does not make me groggy. Read More Read Less

I hurt my back well over a year ago. I highly recommend this meds to anyone. I don't surfer from any side effect. I have tried about everything out there but with meds I am not afraid to take it and drive, work, or be left alone with the kids. I can take it in the middle of the night and don't have to worry about a upset stomach, The only complaint I would have would be that over time the effectiveness of the med wears off sooner. No problems with sleeping or stomach. over all love it.

I have cronic from back operations, (5). My largest complaint is severe pain down my right leg and foot from a severly compressed siatic nerve. I had a spinal cord stimulator installed and it does help. The nucynta 50 mg was not very effective controling the pain. It was better than nothing but not by much. It was also causing insomnia requiring a script for ambien. I wouldnt recommend this med for those with severe pain. My cronic pain doctor is putting me on oxycodine 10 mg times 5 per day. I really hope it works.Read More Read Less

I was put on this medication 6 months ago looking for an alternative for an extended release pain medication. I have scoliosis which curves and twists my spinearthritis, bulging discs etc. I have tried morphine, occupying, hydrocodone and Percocet. I have had zero relief with this medication. It's almost like a mild anti inflammatory. I still take Percocet 10/325 4 times daily only supposed to take for break through pain but needed it as my primary pain relief. Not only does it not work but you have horrible side effects if missing a dose. I was dizzy, fatigued and felt like I was getting shocked all over. This is my experience and have heard from other patients how great it is so you have to try it for yourself. Everyone's experience is different. Any recommendations for an extended release pain medication that is not morphine or oxycontin?Read More Read Less

I am taking 75mg x 4 daily of Nucynta, and 50mg x 2 daily of the Nucynta ER. I have had chronic pain for 16 years and this is the only med that has worked this well for me. I have been taking it for 2 years and am very pleased. It was rough going the first month....I was severely nauseous and dropped 20 lbs. My doctor told me if I could just hang in there and make it through the nausea she felt the benefits would be worth it. She was right! Nothing else I've taken in the past has managed my pain like this. The only con to this med I believe is that it is addictive, being that it is an opiate.Read More Read Less

I have used Nucynta 75 mg. for 5+ years. When the Nucynta ER came out I switched to 200 mg ER every 12 hours and up to 3 of the 75 mg every 24 hour for break through pain. I have tried just about everything out there to control pain. This is the only pain meds. To control my pain to the point I leave my cane at home. They are a little proud of it and I have had to try other meds. when I had no insurance. I have had the same doses for several years and I get the same relief, while some of the others pain meds. I needed higher dose each month. Dry mouth is only side effect I have had.Read More Read Less

Nucynta ER -or Ultram'enhanced kissing cousin.' Nucynta was developed by Gruenthal pharmaceuticals (a German pharma),who holds the patent. This atypical opioid which binds with moderate efficacy to the mu-receptors creating analgesia with a mild antidepressant effect by boosting norepinephrine levels. NUCYNTA has created a breakthrough pain nightmare for me. (To be continued). Damnable nightmarish pain and a lousy MD pain specialist. pleased to be here to help and receive help in return.

I have been diagnosed with undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy, which is a form of spondylitis. The result is chronic pain that must be managed. I have tried other pain management medications, including a fentanyl. The fentanyl patch almost killed me when combined with another medication I was taking (it's a long story, but suffice it to say that my 16 year old son found me just as I was breathing my last and turning blue. He performed CPR on me until the paramedics arrived and used the paddles to restart my heart, my son, my hero, saved my life.). After coming so close to death I told my doctor that I would never go with anything as strong as fentanyl patch again. My pain management specialist decided to go with Nucynta ER (extended release) for pain maintenance and Nucynta for break through pain. This medication has been my salvation. Most people with spondylitis of any kind end up going on disability, with this medication I hold down a full time job and actually thrive. I am lucky to have a job that allows me to work from home. For someone living with chronic pain I strongly recommend giving this medication a try.Read More Read Less
