I am sending an update from my review on 10/24/11. I previously posted that his drug caused me headaches, severe cramps, and continuous bleeding while taking it. I failed to add that I had immense hair loss over the 3 months I took Amethia. I went to a dermatologist last week regarding my hair loss. Now I didn't include this in the last post because I didn't associate it with the drug at that ti...

Got Amethia as birth control - didn't really care what type of pill it was, this was just what my gyn recommended. Took it for 2 months, then quit. At first, it was great. I didn't really have a problem remembering to take it every day, only forgot a few times but remembered hours later. For the first 4 weeks it didn't seem bad at all - only complaint would have been some pretty annoying spotting ...

I've been on this for about 4 months after switching from Seasonique Lo and Generess Fe. This is definitely the best of the three but I do have some complaints. I've noticed a small increase in breast size, but I've also noticed really bad mood swings about one to two times a week. I think the most concerning thing I've noticed is that any acne I get now turns into cysts. I think it's caused by an increase in hormones. I always get randoms spots of acne now and then but I've NEVER had cystic acne until I started taking this. It does make my periods slightly less painful, but only slightly. Other than those concerns, no spotting or bleeding in between periods or breast tenderness. Read More Read Less

My doctor recommended Seasonique as a bc pill due to A) my active lifestyle and heavy periods and B) severe migraines related to my cycle. My pharmacy/insurance switched out Seasonique for Amethia. I never noticed a difference. I haven't had ANY spotting. No noticable weight gain. No real issues at all. My headaches are much better (I coupled preventative accupuncture treatment with my bc pill and had success).

Thank you ladies for sharing your stories. Because I seriously thought I was having a miscarriage or showing symptons of fibroids. Just 5 days ago I checked into the ER due to all the bleeding and cramping. First month was fine, no problems. But this second month has been a living hell with 2 weeks of spotting and this is my second week of bleeding. So I have been bleeding for almost a month straight. ugh. This was my first time taking amenthia and Ive just got off the phone with my doctor requesting to be immediately switched back to Seasonique (no more generics). I do thing breast growth maybe true bc my breasts itch like crazy and someone told me tht thats the first sign their about to grow (when they itch) but im good, id rather be comfortable bc ive been on bc for over 7 years with no discomfort or heavy cycles and now after being cleared at ER i know its these pills. im very dissatisfied and wld never reccommend these pills.Read More Read Less

I'm at the end of my third pill pack of this medicine. I now get my period on weeks that aren't the placebo week. I am now taking anti-depressants and had bad mood swings. I am now breaking out with acne. I'm going to talk to my doctor about taking me off this medicine.

I have been on BC for several years prior to taking Amethia, and I have to say, this pill is the worst. Before, I was taking Ortho tri-cyclen lo and I had no problems with it. A month ago, I was taken off of it and put on Amethia. My OB/GYN prescribed that I take Amethia because the symptoms were supposedly better than the other. Now, I'm almost a month into taking it and all I have to say is, Do. Not. Take. It. This pill has caused me to gain weight in the first week of taking it. Now I'm only on my 4th week (suppose to be period week) and I've been going through hell. Nonstop migraines all week, along with unbearable cramps and nausea(to the point where I can barely keep a cracker down), and diarrhea. I highly recommend that no one should take this or continue taking this. It's not worth it. Read More Read Less

I have been taking Amethia for several months. I have not had any type of nipple or vaginal discharge like other users, but I have gained some weight in my breasts and belly. My bra size is a cup size bigger than when I started taking Amethia. I actually learned about this pill from a friend when asking about her breast size increase. I thought she had gotten implants, but she said that the increase came about after taking Amethia for a couple of months. That plus the decrease in periods make this pill seem too good to be true, but I am getting those benefits! My breasts do sometimes feel tender, but it isn't painful. I don't have any issues with acne, mood swings, or spotting.Read More Read Less

still had monthly periods (took pill for 9 months before getting rid of them). Depression, mood swings, irritability, cramps, breakouts. TERRIBLE! I did not have this problem with seasonique.

I started taking Amethia about three months ago. No mood swings, headaches, or weight gain. My only complaint would be breast tenderness that lasted only the first month. Still having regular periods, but they are shorter and lighter. Has also helped prevent acne.

I was on Seasonique for over a year and then my pharmacy switched me to Amethia. WORST BC PILL EVER. If your pharmacy gives it to you, hand it back before even leaving. I've been on different BC pills for nearly 6 years & have never had any problems until now. I started spotting around week 8, which turned into light bleeding weeks 9-11 and now I'm on my "off week" when I get my period and it's been horrible. I have never had such heavy bleeding, even before I was on BC. I have huge clots which I've also never had and cramps so bad I have had to leave work because I'm in tears from the pain. Not to mention it has given me terrible headaches every morning (I take my pill at night before bed) and made me into a crazy woman and I get mad or cry if someone just looks at me wrong. I will NOT be getting this medication ever again.Read More Read Less

I've taken OBC for years, then got the Mirena, IUD, periods stopped. I had another implanted 5yrs later, began periods and acne. My migraines worsened. Went on Amethia, now I bleed daily, cramps, it's horrible, my skin looks great, I gained 15lbs. Hoping its the Rx, not early menopause. And - pap, during the 3hr slot I don't bleed, daily

I have been taking this contraceptive for over 2 years now and I have never been more satisfied with a pill. I have taken a few different brands and I am the happiest with this one. I spotted the first month or two and then BARELY had a period every 3 months since.

I did not experience any spotting with Amethia (which shocked me since Mirena made me spot constantly). The only major side effect I noticed was that my acne flaired up, worse than when I went through puberty. I went today to see my NP and she said the higher levels of testosterone leads to this side effect. I did not gain weight or experience mood swings. I decided to switch because the acne was so bad.

I'm 48 and hadn't taken the pill in 20 years Everything was great the first month and a half. Now I'm into the third month and have dark brown spotting daily and cramping. I started taking it so I wouldn't have periods every month due to the pain of endometriosis. I've also noticed I'm much more emotional "hormonal". I'm going off this pill!

I have been on this pill for over a year. I have used both generics (Amethia and Camerse) as well as Lo Seasonique (my pharmacy keeps switching it! The hazard of being uninsured I suppose- I'm at their mercy.) anyway, I have not had any problems at all. The first month I got my normal period, the second it was spotty, but since then only had them every three months with no breakthrough. I have also actually LOST weight on this pill. Awesome! I am having acne troubles but I've always had it so I don't think it's the pill. I was really scared when it was prescribed because everyone has such negative experiences it seems, but for me it's been great. Give it a try! Read More Read Less

I have been taking this generic drug for a couple years. At first everything was fine. Now after year 2 I am finding I spot in between periods, I have a constant headache and terrible cramps the week of my period, and I have put on added weight since taking this pill. The thing that bothers me is that I can't seem to lose the weight. I can exercise and diet for a month and no change. I realize some of this can be because I have been in BC for years and I'm in my mid 30's but something tells me no. Every period the side effects get worse and worse. I caution anyone from taking this pill. Read More Read Less

I was taking Camrese because my periods were extremely painful, and as BC once I started having sex. Insurance switched me to Amethia and it is horrible. Depression symptoms, bloating and cramps for a month, and hand tremors.

I have struggled with endometriosis for the last 14yrs. I have had lap surgery to remove it and it came right back, tried mirena which made everything 10x worse... This pill has literally saved my life. I started taking it in October of 2011 and have been absolutely pain free since.. For the first time in 14yrs I feel like a normal person. No cramps, no side effects for me whatsoever, and for some (wonderful) reason, my period has completely stopped. Even when I take the blue row, nothing. Unfortunately, I switched to Medco mail to save some money on my prescription and I just received Camrese today in the mail. I have read that they are supposed to be the same thing but I'm extremely nervous, which I'm sure most people can understand.. But as for Amethia, I would recommend that anyone suffering with Endo should at least give this a try!! Read More Read Less

I started this BC in late January or early February and so far, i love. i did have a long, weird mood swing that my boyfriend pointed out. my ance stayed about the same; a few breakouts here and there every so often. I'm 2 weeks away from starting my first period since being on it. Hopefully, it shortens mine!
