The drug is great. Ease of use star is low, due to the fact I am hard to get a IV needle in. This drug via infusion 40 grams every 28 days has lowered my cholesterol drastically. It was not prescribed for cholesterol problems, but I went from 550 to 187. There should be research on this drug and the ablility it has in lowering cholesterol. I have never been under 350, and have been as high as 5...

Since beginning the infusions, I have not had any respiratory problems and I have not had so much as a cold nor problems with my asthma. I am amazed how my health has improved since I started the infusions.

I am an insulin dependent diabetic, CIDP. I have had numerous IVIG products. This is the best IVIG drug. Others tried include Gamaguard S/D, Gammar /p, Caramuin and others left me weak and ill for 1-2 weeks. My most recent experience was a drug called Flebogamma. Flebogamma caused renal failure plus all the contact your doctor if and most of the posted drug side affects. I recieve 120 grams of Octagam every 28 days. I have only experienced repeated small headaches. As to inacurate B/G tests - the morons reporting problems with BG meters and Octagam fail to realize that most receive Decadron which boosts the BG readings - its is not Octagam.Read More Read Less

When I was first diagnosed with CIDP I couldn't walk. I was numb and tingling from the ribs down, had no strength in arms or legs, and was completly miserable due my incapacities. My first round was done at the begining of November in 2007 and lasted 5 days long at about 6 hours a day. I didn't drink enough water so by the end of day three I had the worst headache of my life and was taken to the ER for IV fluids. Despite my reaction, I made it through and within a week I was back up on my feet. I was really slow and stiff but I was sans walker which was enough for me. From that point on I have gotten IV infusion every month, two days straight at 6 hours a day. I have finally figured out how to avoid feeling dehydrated and run down and I get even better every month. I'm not running or jumping or anything crazy, but I can walk at a fast pace and without knowing me or my history, you would NEVER know anything was wrong with me. I still get stiff every now and then and experience some tingling in my feet, but it's not something that I can't live with. I'm approaching my one year and I am continuing my treatment happily. I receive my treatment in the doctor's office with a wonderful nurse while sitting in a recliner and sleeping through most of it. My Mom says that I go bouncing off the wall when I get my treatment because it gives me energy and I probably do too much but I do it because I finally can. My quality of life has increased tremendously and even though I'll probably never be 100% again, but I'm ok with being 75% for the rest of my life as long as I can walk. Treatment does prove to be a hinderance to my schedule but as long as it works, I'm good. I haven't seen any pigmentations in my skin or experienced any muscle density loss as was reported in the other review, and my biggest complaint was a headache. It was worse than any migraine in the world but it was handled and I'm alive so I'm ok with that.Read More Read Less

Initial treatment was five Octagam infusions over five days in July of 2007, one infusion in August, one in September and one in October. Each infusion took about four hours. While there was no change in the numbness of the lower legs I developed excruciating joint and muscle pains in arms, legs, neck, hands, etc. Also developed severe loss of muscle tone in arms and hands. Thirdly, developed loss of skin pigmentation. Asked doctor if I could discontinue infusions for several months and he agreed. Pains soon went away and muscle tone returned but skin pigmentation loss still present. Very costly medication at over $4,000 per infusion (the first infusion in a hospital cost $11,421.00). Medicare will only pay if infusion performed at a hospital. If infusion performed by a nurse at home Medicare does not pay so the cost might be picked up under the Medicare Drug program but then there's still a co-pay depending on the insurance policy. My Medicare insurer agreed to pay for Octagam infusions for one year only. My drug costs for 2007 were over $48,700 with a $5,000 out-of-pocket co-pay (mainly due to Octagam). If anyone on Medicare has to have this medication be sure to have it done at a hospital and be sure to check all costs first. Anyone taking this medication also needs to be very aware of possible side effects which might be worse than the problem being treated.Read More Read Less
