Took 10 days of 500mg tablets for severe sinus infection (horrible swelling of my face around brow bones, under eyes), my worst infection of my sinus area in a very long time. I get an average of 2 sinus infections a year, due to malformation of the sinus glands. I have taken Levaquin before and never had a problem, so when I began to get these wierd side effects I looked for causes all over ...

A couple years ago was diagnosed with Diversticulitis in the ER. Was given this drug with IV, then prescribed for 14 days. When almost finished with the 14 day course, I started experiencing extreme knee pain and leg pain. I am 51 years old and was walking 3-5 miles daily and feeling great. A couple YEARS later and my legs and knees still hurt and I do good to walk 3 miles a few days a week! I would give ANYTHING if I had not taken this medicine!! It literally changed my life for the worse!! It really should be taken off the market!! Read More Read Less

Worst drug ever! I have severe asthma and this was prescribed for a respiratory infection. After the 3rd dose, I had such severe pain in my arms and legs I couldn't get out of bed! I've told everyone I know never to take this medication! My husband was given 2 doses in the hospital and his eyes swelled up and had vision problems for weeks.

This drug gave me a rash that just want stop. The rash is all over my body. Don't take this drug. I saw a dermatologist about the rash and he made the comment that Levaquin was famous for this reaction.

Have lupus, fibromyalgia and have had a complete knee replacement. Due to compromised immune system I have fibrosis of lungs and prone to pneumonia. Started this medicine 3 days ago. Can't sleep. Every muscle and tendon are screaming. Can barely walk. Have stopped taking. Pain is excruciating.

I was given this drug after having a bad reaction to Cipro. It made matters worse: two to three soft movements in a day, gas, and feeling tired.

Took one dose of this pain and immediate pain in left calf (less than 30 minutes). Called my doctor and changed antibiotic right away. Pain went away for awhile but has come back to now have pain in legs, knees, elbows, and shoulders all rotating between them. Just hope this is not permanent and goes away! Pharmacist told me I was a 33 year old healthy male and not to worry about taking this drug that it only has major side effects with older patients! I would never have taken it if I would have not been lied to by my pharmacist!!! Please DO NOT TAKE NO MATTER HOW HEALTHY YOU THINK YOU ARE!!!Read More Read Less

After only one dose, this medicine caused dizziness, pain in my calves, upper arms and pain/swelling in my ankles. I could barely walk. Jittery and lightheaded feeling within 30 mins of taking this drug. No knowing the cause of my problems and never having bronchitis before, I took another dose. This sent me to the emergency medical facility. I was told the pain in my tendons was because this medicine "rips through" your tendons. I can expect to have this pain for a YEAR. Although it has been 3 months, I still have pain. Not quite as bad but still,it's there. My breathing changed and I had chest discomfort with this medicine. Numbness in my fingers and toes. Since that time, I have seen that this medicine is no longer used to treat bronchitis. I will never accept this drug for any treatment again. The risks far outweight the 'benefit'. (I never saw a benefit) Prednoisone took care of my illness in 2 days. Do NOT take Levaquin without doing a bit of research for youself. In my opinion, it's not worth it.Read More Read Less

Perforated and abscessed colon. Pain in elbows by second day. Four months later, the excruciating pain in my knees and hips is still almost unbearable. Complained about the Levaquin after days of iv's and then pills so was put on Augmentin. Didn't help much. Praying for horrible pain and weakness to leave!

Levaquin was prescribed to me for Pneumonia, a 10 day supply. This medication was a nightmare. About 20 minutes after I had taken each dose my body would become racked with pain. Every muscle and joint ached, and even my skin felt like I had a severe sunburn. In my unprofessional opinion this medication should not be on the market.

This drug may have fixed the illness, but it killed my sense of taste and smell. They have partially returned after about 3 years now.

I went to the Emergency room and had a bad bladder infection. Before leaving they gave me a Levaquin pill (plus a prescription to get filled for 5 days after) I took the pill about 9:45am and all day I was very sick to my stomach, extremely nauseous, had a severe headache, and just felt a lot worse in general. So I called the Emergency room about 5pm and explained how bad I felt after taking just that one pill and asked them if the doctor could call me a different antibiotic in because I was not going to take anymore of this antibiotic because of how I was already feeling. The doctor did call me in something different. But I still feel draggy and nauseous today after taking that one pill in the Er yesterday. It may work for some, but not for me. Just wanted to post my experience with it. Read More Read Less

This is an awful drug. Took last year with no side effects. This time errible arm, shoulder and chest pain. Also hand and leg pain. It's been at least 3 weeks since I took this drug. At first I thought this was heart related. Seems to be getting worse. I thought I was safe because I took this before. Don't take this drug! Should not be on the market.

I have taken this medication twice and had severe seizures both times and severe hallucinations. I was seeing people who were not there. I would see people disappear into thin air. I thought at one point there was a bomb planted in the hospital and we were being evacuated from the hospital, which was not true. I have been off of it about a week and am still having some nervousness and tremors and jerks in my arms and legs. I had severe psychotic problems that I am still trying to cope with today.Read More Read Less

Recurrent U.T.I. Prescribed co-levofloxacin 500 mg. 1x a day for 7 days. Slow process. It took the full 7 days to start feeling better. Nine days, later U.T.I. came back. Suggest I require an antibiotic to self-medicate at the onset.

I had what turned out to be systemic pneumococcal complicated with severe bronchitis and body-wide infections and inflammation. I suffered with this for 8 weeks before my doctor prescribed 500mg of Levaquin (Levofloxacin). My symptoms before this already included severe sudden onset arthritic-like joint pains (every joint), muscle pains, sinus pains, sinus headaches, severe and very swollen sore throat, hoarseness, painful earaches with drainage, very scratchy and irritation in upper chest when breathing, infection and inflammation of pericardium sac causing accumulation of fluid which caused it to look like heart was enlarged on x-ray, pleurisy, etcetera. While on the Levaquin, my symptoms began clearing up slowly but surely. Unfortunately at the end of the cycle most symptoms were still present. Better, but not cured. My doctor would prescribe anymore antibiotics (he seemed to not understand that pneumococcal is / can be more than "just pneumonia") and referred me to an Infectious Disease doctor who could see me in late February 2016 (this was now early December 2015). Things very rapidly relapsed and worsened. A few days before Christmas I was at the Urgent Care where I saw a Nurse Practitioner was on duty) and then the doctor - he was shocked that this had been allowed to get this bad (by my doctor). He initially considered admitting me for IV ADMINISTRATION OF ANTIBIOTICS. Instead he prescribed me 750mg of Levaquin for a 10-day cycle. The stronger dose of Levaquin has clearly been of a stronger, quicker response to this bacterial infection. Also, the NP referred me to a study of over 7500 people in a Clinical Trial on this drug listed on RxList. 4.3% of participants dropped out due to adverse responds (most minor). Serious reactions were less that 0.01% of participants. Also about 1996 Dutch study that tracked 318,000 Levaquin prescriptions and after a year found less than 15 cases of tendon ruptures that MAY be associated. All responded to rehabRead More Read Less

I feel bad for those that have negative experiences with this drug. I was coughing incessantly, especially at night!. I am a college student that contracted CAP and waited a month! to see the Doctor. Pneumonia with a double ear infection (no pain) was the diagnosis. I was prescribed 500mg Levaquin a day, for 10 days. No pain, no sleeplessness, no stomach issues. A miracle drug for me. Starting improving 24 hours after 1st dose and a month later? no issues and more importantly, no pneumonia!Read More Read Less
