Started seroquel 3 weeks ago and am now finding no mood swings, less anxiety and less racing thoughts. Terrific. Taken at night I can even sleep through the night!

I have parasites, but I'm not being believed. I don't like the side effects from this drug!! I'm not gaining weight, I am not able to eat, because my mouth is so sensitive and I keep getting strep. My mouth and tongue feel slimy and I don't like the taste of food. I vomit when I try to eat. I'm very weak from the lack of food. The inside of my lips, feels cracked and sore.

I have never slept consistently and soundly in my life really. I'm concerned with some info I've researched on Seroquel, given my particular diagnoses. But for now, sleep may be the one thing keeping me alive. Does not sedate quickly but makes me sleep til noon or later but who cares now. Being awake is too painful .

Diagnosed Bi polar 1 coinciding with schizoaffective disorder at 25 following a mixed suicidal episode and put on 25mg 4xdaily and gradually increased until now currently at 300 taken before bed. It took 5 whole years to get to this point, out of all other drugs I have given a try (taking earliest anti depressant at 15) this one has truly been a blessing but it came at a terrible cost for me. At first 3 months of it I had horribly vivid nightmares, excessive weight gain, constant almost narcoleptic like bouts of drowsiness, terrible tremors of my hand, blurred vision and slurred/mumbled speech, difficulty completing full understandab thoughts, an almost zombie like state and the high that cane with it. I also seemed to break out in welts, hives and rashes sporadically as well as akathesia. Those all happened within the first year. Nearly all gradually eased up as changes in when i took it and how much progressed in treatment. After 4 years on it, it worked its magic and so did covid and I had to stop taking it. Was able to avoid withdrawal thanks to being warned and my doctor providing me samples to use to taper down and off easily. Now I am back on it for nearly 2 months but I started taking high doses right away. Respect this drug and it will help you greatly. Side effects are terrible but in most cases the benefit really outweighs the risk of it. BUT THE RASH IS THE ABSOLUTE WORSE. Its concerning me a little. I will talk to my dr about it. Like all antipsychotics, the side effects are no joke... but for me the not wanting to commit something terrible by trying to disarm a cop and ending up in jail in the suicide wing naked for 7 days is worth all those pesky side affects. I hope this helped, thank you for your time. Read More Read Less

300mg side effects were minimal. akathisia at night rarely. reduction of paranoia/auditory hallucinations. slight weight gain. mild heart rate increase shortly after taking that goes away. sleepy but manageable. 6-8 months spent stable. 400mg + 50mg as needed (NMS etc.) for the first two weeks, basically the same effects as above. then, suddenly one night, had hypotension and tachycardia. felt vertigo and dizziness. weakness in my legs and body generally from the blood pressure drop. brain fog, maybe a mild altered mental state. slurred speech. shortness of breath. felt like any moment i could slip out of consciousness. was taken to the ER. they pushed fluids, did scans, and watched for worsening symptoms. speaking was difficult and the expenditure would make me feel the vertigo again. these symptoms typically came in waves (around a few minutes on/few minutes off), which became less severe and less frequent over the next 4 hours. the ER doctors speculated, but didn't offer a diagnosis or recommendations other than to stay hydrated. my blood potassium level was 0.1 below normal - i'm not entirely certain what the measurement is - but it indicated very slight dehydration. my doctor told me to keep taking the 400mg. instead, i took a reduced dose (300mg) the next day, in case it was NMS, and experienced similar symptoms after the medication's onset that night, but not severe enough to make another ER visit. if i had followed my doctor's orders to keep taking the full dose afterward, i feel i would've likely went back to the ER, maybe died. i don't blame them. to some extent, it's a guessing game and up to that point they were more than competent. final words: stay hydrated on this medication. don't let your doctor increase your dose too quickly unless necessary- carefully monitor your mental health symptoms, have your doc make dose adjustments before things get out of control. if i had done these things, perhaps the medication would've kept working for me.Read More Read Less

This drug gave me a second life, after being in Iraq for a 15 month straight tour of duty in total combat theatre, ate it up, no problem, when I returned things seemed normal for the most part, but for some reason when someone asked me about being over there, like a light switch, I would start shaking and crying, in my mind I was like wtf, am I tripping or what, maybe I'm just having a bad day, about a week went by, everything totally cool, I'm been promoted 3 ranks in a 4 month period, in the Army, this is considered on the ball without hesitation, I'm a walking, talking, example of the American flag in the flesh,,, then it happen again and a couple more times, in my mind I'm like WTF,,,man up and answer the folks simple everyday type of question, more shaking and crying, long story short got prescribed this medication, and after a week or two someone asked me about Iraq, and I could suddenly talk about it, the attack was gone, like boom,,,, I have to admit, that was pretty f -ing trippy!Read More Read Less

My ex put my 8 year old son on this drug he has gained weight and complains about his stomach hurting. I dont agree with him being on meds at all. I have legal medical authority but she never asks or tells me. I'm concerned because I feel he is too young. I see 13 as an age but am unsure how they could diagnose him with conditions related to this drug at 8 years old

I have bipolar II and was prescribed this medication vas mood stabilizer and to help me sleep. It worked better at the beginning but then I started noticing the side effects. I gained weight, I do a lot of exercise but didn't stopped the gain weight. I couldn't control the hunger. I only took it at night because it will make me passed out. I started having Luka fairing issues when I woul take it and I wouldn't go to bed fast enough. I started having difficulty for breathing this was mainly at night but during the day I feel like I had allergies or something witch I am not allergiec to anything that I know off. I got tested for allergies and I didn't tested positive for any. I decided to stop talking it. I got the dose reduce gradually until 50mg from the 250 that I was taking. I have take it for more than a year. I was under the impression that I would not have any withdraw symptoms since I did it very gradually. I was mistaken. It has been a week and the withdraw symptoms are still very strong. Insomnia is the worst one with night sweets and for the little time I got some sleep, I experienced very vivid nightmares. I am experiencing sever itching specially at night. The nausea, stomachake and headache are really bad too. I can't focus and my mood swings have been very noticeable. I am hopeful this will stop soon. The good side, I already notice that the uncontrollable hunger is almost gone! My problems breathing at night are gone and during the day I have fell less of the allergy symptoms, not completely gone though. The concentration is improving each day. I think that it is a very strong medicine that can really help but it does have very serious side effects. My doctor told me I had to choose between the benefit and living with the side effects. I hope I made the right decision. Read More Read Less

Seroquel works for me after titrated in and out with Clonazepam but the side effects linger. My manic surges in the form of uncontrollable rage and anger. At times, I get hysterical and violent. When I am mellowed, I can't sleep. I take Seroquel as an addition to Lamactical in order to stabilize my mood better and regulate sleep. The first few weeks of Seroquel administration, my dreams were vivid they feel freakishly real that I had to reconfirm which event was real and which event never happened. Vivid dreams reoccur if I skipped my dosages due to medical interruption. I was sleepy(11-12 hours of sleep) but I quickly tolerated the sedative properties of Seroquel and slowly, I was not sleeping again (I am tired but I can not sleep). My energy level was high. Anxiety was high. So the doctors increased my Seroquel and Lamotrigine dosages and added Clonezopam to the mixture. Now my sleep has regulated to 6-8 hours. I am not taking Clonazepam anymore. Sleep is ok, but I still have restless nights albeit not as frequent as before despite being highly active (I work out 1-2 hours 6 days a week; this has been my routine before taking Seroquel). Now I am readjusting to the new dosage, I can feel that my metabolism is a little compromised as I have been a little fatigued. I can feel cravings but I can still control it. And even though my weight fluctuates easily I end up losing 15lbs in 3 months because when I am anxious I can't eat. I bloat and have constipation easier if I am not careful with what I eat as I become sensitive to certain types of food. My rhinitis asthma becomes easily triggered so I had to take anti-histamine (a mixture of cetirizine and loratadine) more frequent. Overall, my anger and agitation have been significantly suppressed. I can be 'patient' and 'have control' of my patience. I am conscious of my 'triggers' due to the lagging of gratification, so I can rationalize my mood better even though my anxiety is sensitized. Horrifying experience. I woke up with extreme panic and wanted to run out of my home. I was pregnant and I was put on this. It ruined my ability to sleep for the rest of my pregnancy. Do not, do not , do not take this. The worst ever. Trust yourself, be yourself . This drug and the psychiatric doctors are not good people. Please do not take this.go to couseling. Godbless.

I admit that seroquel helped my insomnia, but 15 lb weight gain in 2 months is too high of a price due to the increase in pain I suffered. I have an auto immune disease and any extra lbs add to pain. If you need to drive early in the morning itâ??s dangerous due to the time needed to feel alert.

The brand Seroquel works best for me; however, the insurance companies do not want to allow pharmacies to give me the brand name. I am forced to take generic brands which are not as effective as the brand. Two of my doctors write scripts for Brand only but I keep getting a lesser quality substitute that usually allows two hours before kicking in and I wake up several times a night. These I have noticed with different manufacturers given to me. One time a pharmacy gave me a generic instead of the brand the doctor had written and I had an anaphylactic reaction. Brand works best for me. Generic is not the same just because people say it is. Generics have cheap substance. That is why they are cheap. They have cheap ingredients and are not on formularies. When that is all you can get, the quality of your life is reduced as well. I pray I can get the brand name prescription for Seroquel ER XL for a quality rest nightly, Read More Read Less

When I was initially prescribed it, I was directed to take a half (100 mg) table the first day, then a full one the second day, and increase by one each day until 300 mg. I barely made it to 300 mg. I guess you cant be bipolar if you're in a coma! I had weird dreams and slept 12 hours. When I was awake, I ate everything in sight. I had difficulties driving to work because I was extremely exhausted and veered a little of the road. I stopped taking it when I almost wrecked. I will try any medication, but this one, again.Read More Read Less

It takes any panic and puts it into a box outside of me and I feel like I can do anything normally. That last for 10-15 minutes and then I would get so dizzy I'd about fall over. Next my eyes will only want to roll into the back of my head and shake back and forth and I feel really stupid. Then I sleep for 5 hours and wake up not really remembering most of the day even though I went through it. But I didn't have the consciousness to be upset or disturbed?

I have been on 200Mg. for five years now. In those five years I have stopped cleaning my house, stopped walking, stopped doing my art, stopped going out it's a chore just to go to the doctor. All I want to do is sleep or watch T.V. I have no life left since I started taking Seroquel. I am lazy, lazy, lazy! Not to mention that I've gained 75 pounds on this awful med. because it makes you crave sweets and all carbs like crazy! I heard this drug is extremely difficult to get off from.

The problem with Seroquel (Quetiapine) for me is that I gained 30lbs in 3 years and am always tired. Since I am/was afraid of a heart attack from being obese, I gradually replaced it with CBD oil. So far so good. I have continued to take Zoloft (sertraline) and Carbamazepine (Tegretol).
